74.1 Panawagan para sa mga Akda

‍

Higit sa pagkalam ng sikmura, pinakikilos tayo ng gútom na punan ang mga kakulangan ng ating pagkatao. 

‍

Gútom ang isa sa napakaraming mukha ng kahirapan. Ungol ito ng katawang naghihintay na matugunan ang pangangailangan. Ito ang báon ng mga nakikipagsapalaran: mga magsasaka, mga manggagawa, at lahat ng marhinalisadong pamayanan. Umiiral ang gútom sa mga nasang nananatili sa ating kalamnan. Mula sa pagkain hanggang sa anumang tinutukoy natin na bumubuhay sa ating pagkatao.

Ang kagutuman din ay batayan ng ating kakayahan na piliin at gawin ang anumang nilalayon. Mararamdaman ito sa mga bagay na hindi magawa. Sa mga pangarap na hindi matupad. Sa mga pinalipas na hapunan ng tahimik na pag-iisa. Sa espasyong ipinagkakait sa atin ng tinatawag nating tahanan. Sa ganitong gana, humihigit ito sa pansariling pandama. Mararanasan ito sa mga kwentong maririnig mo kapag lumabas ka na sa pamantasan. Sa hagulgol ng ina na humihingi ng katarungan. Sa mga panawagan ng kabataan laban sa katiwalian. Pinatutunayan sa atin ng kasaysayan na ang gútom ng taumbayan ang naghuhudyat ng himagsikan.

Makapangyarihan ang gútom bilang panawagan na kumilos. Maaari mo itong tiisin at palipasin pero magpaparamdam pa rin ito sa ibang paraan. Hindi ito nagpapatahimik ng laman hanggang sa makahanap ng konsuwelo sa kapunuan. Kaya, likas sa mga manunulat at manlilikha ang gútom—sa mga karanasang nais nating sabihin at ibahagi. Sa katotohanan na nais nating ipagtanggol at pangalagaan.

Gútom ang nagpapaalab ng ating malikhaing paninindigan dahil hindi lang ito basta hinaing. Isa itong pakikibaka. 

‍

Para sa unang regular na folio sa ika-74 taon nito, binubuksan ng HEIGHTS Ateneo ang panawagan para sa mga akdang tumatalakay sa gútom at sa kakayahan nitong magpakilos. Hinahamon ng publikasyon ang mga manunulat at manlilikha ng sining na magtanong, magnilay, at kilatisin ang ating kinalalagyan sa lipunan. Sa isang mundong mapanupil at mapagkait, ano ang gumugutom sa iyo? Paano ka kumikilos sa harap ng kagutuman?

Palatuntunin sa Pagpasa

Binubuksan na ng HEIGHTS ang panawagan sa mga akda para sa unang regular na folio na may temang, “Gútom.” Iniimbitahang magpasa ng kanilang mga akda ang mga mag-aaral, guro, alumni, at kawani ng Higher Education Cluster.

Tumatanggap kami ng mga akdang pampanitikan sa English at Filipino at mga akdang Sining gamit ang kahit anong medium.

‍

Para sa mga akda sa English at Filipino:

Tumatanggap kami ng mga tula, maikling kuwento, sanaysay, kritisismo, dulang may isahang yugto, at screenplay.

‍

Bawat kontributor ay inaasahang magpasa ng hindi hihigit sa pitong (7) akda mula sa iba’t ibang genre. Sa bawat akdang isusumite, mangyaring ilakip ang dalawang (2) kopya ng akda: isang kopya sa pormang .DOCX at isa sa pormang .PDF. (A4 Size)

Ang filename ng dokumentong ito ay [APELYIDO] Title (hal. [Dela Cruz] Untitled)

‍

Isumite ang mga akda nang may ganitong format: EB Garamond, font size 11, at 1.5 spacing.

‍

Para sa mga akdang Sining-Biswal:

Tumatanggap kami ng mga biswal na obra: ilustrasyon, painting, potograpiya, mixed media, photomanipulation, o mga akda sa kahit anong biswal na medium.

‍

Maaari lamang magpasa ang bawat manlilikha ng hindi lalagpas sa sampung (10) akda at hindi lalagpas sa dalawang (2) serye.

‍

Sabihin sa pangalan ng file kung indibidwal o bahagi ng isang serye ang mga ipapasa.

‍

Mga karagdagang patnubay:

• Ilakip ang lahat ng mga akda bilang image file na may 300 dpi pataas na resolusyon.

• Tinatanggap ang mga files na may .JPEG / .PNG / .IMG extensions.

• Tinatanggap ang mga reel o screenshot ng mga .GIF at iba pang video file.

• Hindi tatanggapin ang Photoshop at Illustrator files.

• Mangyaring tandaan na maaaring tanggapin ng palathala ang piling bahagi lamang ng mga serye.

• Mga Tala ukol sa Proseso ng Malilikha: Inaanyayahan ang mga manlilikha na magpasa ng paliwanag kasabay ng kanilang nilikha, ukol sa kanilang malikhaing proseso, mga konsepto at balangkas na ginamit, at iba pang mga detalye na maaaring makatulong sa proseso ng deliberasyon. Gagawin ito sa isang sanaysay na hindi lalagpas sa 250 na salita, at ilalakip bilang isang .DOCX file. Hindi ito ilalathala sa folio.

Para sa bawat akda, ilagay sa pangalan ng file ang PAMAGAT, MEDIUM, at SUKAT nito.

Sa pagsusumite ng iyong akda sa taunang panawagan ng HEIGHTS Ateneo, ika’y sumasang-ayon sa mga sumusunod nang matanggap ang iyong piyesa: 1) ang akda ay maaaring maibahagi sa HEIGHTS’ online pages tulad ng Facebook at Instagram, 2) ang akda ay maaaring mailathala at maipakita sa mga proyekto ng HEIGHTS, 3) maaaring makipag-ugnay ang HEIGHTS sa awtor ukol sa anumang rebisyon ng piyesa.

Buburahin ang mga kopya ng patnugot ng mga hindi nailathalang akda, kasama ang kaugnay nitong proseso ng talakayan sa loob ng isang (1) taon mula sa publikasyon ng folio kung saan isinumite ang piyesa.

74.1 Call for Contributions

‍

Beyond the gnawing of an empty stomach, hunger moves us to respond to the gaps in our humanity.

‍

Hunger is one of the many faces of poverty. It is the groan of a body when needs go unmet. It is the burden carried by those who wrestle with survival: from farmers, to laborers, and to all the marginalized communities. Hunger is the longing that lingers and knots into our flesh. From what we consume to whatever it is that makes us feel alive.

‍

Hunger also grounds our capacities to choose and act upon our intentions. We feel it in what is just beyond our reach. In dreams left unfulfilled. In dinners we let pass in quiet solitude. In the spaces we call home but deny us. In this way, hunger transcends the personal into something shared. We encounter it in stories we hear from beyond the walls of the university. In the wails of a mother pleading for justice. In the youth’s clamor against corruption. History proves to us that it is the hunger of the people that sparks revolution.

‍

Hunger is a powerful call to action. You can try to endure it or let it pass, but it will still make itself known. The body will not calm until it finds consolation in fullness. This is why hunger comes naturally to both writers and artists—in the experiences we are compelled to speak and share. In the truths we wish to defend and preserve. 

‍

Hunger breathes life into our creative convictions. More than mere grievance, it is resistance.

‍

For the first regular folio of its 74th year, HEIGHTS Ateneo opens a call for works that tackles hunger and its power to move people to action. The publication challenges writers and artists to question, reflect, and examine our place in society. In a world that oppresses and withholds, what hungers you? In the face of hunger, what urges you to act?

‍

Submission Guidelines 

‍

HEIGHTS is calling for submissions for its first regular folio under the theme of “Hunger.” We are inviting all Higher Education Cluster students, professors, staff, and alumni to submit their work.

‍

We accept written works in English and Filipino and visual art in any medium.

‍

For written works in English and Filipino:

‍

We accept poetry, short fiction, literary essays, literary criticism, one-act plays, screenplays, and critical papers.

‍

Only a maximum of seven (7) works from different genres will be accepted per contributor. For every work, two (2) copies must be submitted: one in .DOCX format and one in .PDF format. (A4 Size)

‍

Label both copies with the filename [LAST NAME] Title (e.g. [Dela Cruz] Untitled)

‍

Submit all works in the following format: EB Garamond, font size 11 and 1.5 spacing.

‍

For visual art:

‍

We accept illustrations, paintings, photographs and photo manipulation, mixed media, sculpture, video art, or visual art in any other medium.

‍

Only a maximum of ten (10) works and a maximum of two (2) series will be accepted per contributor. Indicate whether submissions are individual works or part of a series in the file name.

‍

Further instructions are as follows:

• All works must be attached as an image file with a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

• Files with .JPEG/ .PNG / .IMG extensions will be acepted.

• Reel or screenshots for .GIF and other video files will be accepted.

• Photoshop and Illustrator files will not be accepted.

• Please be reminded that the publication may choose to accept series in parts only.

• Notes on Procedure: Artists are encouraged to send a 250-word written accompaniment to their work, which may be used for the deliberation process. This text may include the artist’s creative process, concepts and frameworks used, and the like. This will not be published in the folio. Notes on procedure must be attached as a .DOCX file.

For every work, indicate TITLE, MEDIUM, and DIMENSION on the file name.

By submitting your work to HEIGHTS Ateneo’s Call for Contributions, you are consenting to the following if your piece is accepted into the publication: 1) the piece may be posted on HEIGHTS’ online pages such as Facebook and Instagram, 2) the piece may be printed and exhibited in any of HEIGHTS’ projects and events, 3) HEIGHTS may contact the author or artist regarding any modifications in the piece.

The editors’ copies of unpublished work and correspondence relating to it will be deleted at most one (1) calendar year from the publication of the folio the work is submitted to. 

‍

Copyright reverts to the original author or artist. HEIGHTS accepts previously published works.
